Buderus GB-142 - Manifold Grnfos is making a high pitched whir

Just installed this system in Sept. Flushed and filledand its been running fine. Anyway today the Grunfos thats in the manifold started making a high pitched whirring noise, should I worry?
Also whats the speed setting on it supposed to be, mine is set on the middle one.

    Air embolism?

A high pitch generally means over-speed, meaning it is in air, not water. That would be my first assumption. I am sure there are other possible causes,

    Another possibility

is that there may be some debris that has collected on the rotor (flux, teflon, etc.) Have had several occassions with Grundfos pumps that had the same symptoms you're talking about, pulled the pump cleaned the rotor and impellar and the whine went away.

    Circ speed

On most GB142 installs the circulator on the pipe manifold should be on speed two. Many times, speed three pumps water through the boiler so fast, very little delta T is picked up by the boiler sensors. Suggestions about cause of the circulator whine are good. Any antifreeze in the system? Does the circulator "whine " all the time or only when hot?

Thanks for all the responses. I think its debris (I was a bit heavyhanded with both the dope and solder),in any case the motor is not doing it now so I think it was dislodged.

Since we are getting into the heating season the water is getting hotter, that may also have something to do with it. There is no antifreeze in the system, just city water. Do I need antifreeze? Should I use Rhomer Protek 922 instead? Its a new boiler married to 50 year old black iron that was dry fora few months(very good shape but some rust when the boiler went in).

    Thanks Brad

Got that call today noisey circ, went in expecting to see the old W/M 68 Boiler with the old 100 series B&Gs with a bad bearing assembly, walked in the boiler room and low and behold a brandy new W/M Gold WPGO with new Grundfoss 3 speed cirs w/checks pumping away. At this time in comes the owner says whats wrong I said you have no heat in your office do you, Do't know I'll check, he comes back nope. Hmm went the mind shut off the return valve opened the purge valve and sure enough out comes a blob of air and heat began flowing again. I may be wrong but the circ goes into a flange Copper/Male adapter and a couple feet of pipe and heads to the floor, I;m thinking that the circ got a slug of air in it and could not push open the check with the air pocket.
