    A few years back

I was down in Newport at a family gathering with friends. Two of the uncles were in the Navy at that time.

One was at Pearl that morning, Ford Island, and saw the whole thing.

The other was at sea, I forget what ship but one we needed badly in the following months. He related this:

The Captain called all hands on deck as they entered Pearl Harbor. There was a stony silence as the ship crossed the entrance.

The Captain broke the silence over the loudspeaker: "Gentlemen, do not EVER forget this!

If you ever get to Honolulu...

do not miss the chance to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Missouri and the USS Utah memorials. The foundation for the Arizona's 3# 14" gun turret is still above water, and you can still see a lot of the ship just below the water from the memorial over the wreck. I've visited a lot of battlefields and historic sites, but none effected me like my visit to the Arizona did back in 1969. Sail on, Pearl Harbor Vets!

When will the last drop float to the surface?

And what a wake up call, while we keep on hitting the snooze button.

    This is important stuff.
