two weeks ago. Customer was self cleaning her "electric"
oven. Got 150 ppm on my TSI 6130.
House has an attached garage with duct work cutting through the plaster fire wall and a register cut into the duct.
I see no need what so ever for a co alarm in that house.

messed up
Mark, my good man, I know you're not surprised by this, this stupid stuff is all over the media. Someone needs to tell this good doctor that a heating appliance should be able to run 24/7 with out even batting an eye. Will society ever understand this? I say "no".

I don;t really see it that far fetched, I would guess he's more of a doctor than a heating expert.
generally the more a mechanical system cycles the higher the probablity of failures.

mech fail
yes, a nod for more breakdowns, not a 'no' for this fact having much to do with deadly CO. It's almost always preventable. Obviuosly there will be freak accidents, but most are stemmed from stupidity or a benign eror; people not realizing potential hazzards, such as negative pressure in the caz.

do you "liven" the link?

Yes I was kidding
If you read the article it said that houses with "electric"
heat are exempt from the co alarm law.
Those of us who have been trained know that there are many other sources of co. Than heating equipment.

still concerned
I've got training coming out of ear
So you're alright with the garage issue? tsk tsk tsk!

I guess
I was more intrigued by this statement, "Colder weather this year is being blamed for a sharp rise in the number of carbon monoxide poisonings in Illinois."
Colder weather, not malfunctioning heating appliances, gas generators in the basement, gas grills in the living room or burning coal in a Wok being blamed for CO poisonings?
When storms hit in the south like hurricanes and tornadoes and power gets knocked out, I get a big jump in CO stories. Those deaths are attributed to the storms as in "storm related", NOT the actual CO that killed the people.
As Gary pointed out, and I know you know this too, a heating appliance should be able to run 24/7 without having an issue. Can you imagine if a CO poisoning was attributed to a heating system that "ran too much"??
After reading this story, it wouldn't surprise me.

Gary put the scotch down before you post
"NO" I am not OK with the garage issue that is why I posted it, I was using it as an example of how co can enter a house by other means.
"ALL" houses should have co alarms since it is not a problem just with heating equipment.

Yah Gary!
Give me your scotch this instant!!! (I'm almost out!)
Mitch mentioned in his first post about the electric oven giving off high levels of CO while it was in self-cleaning mode. 150ppm. I have measured some MUCH higher, depends on how dirty the oven is.
Mitch is 100% correct. CO can come from SO many different places(Gary knows this as well) and he is pointing out the stupidity of the exemption clause for electric homes.
Now.......about that scotch..........

That's why I nicely asked if he was kidding.
I'm a lightweight; just a small glass of Baily's is all I need for the new King of Queens episode at 8:00. I love Doug and Carey!
