Inspector De-Certification

A local plumbing inspector, with a very long track record of being overbearing & abusive, is finally being de-certified by the state of PA. It takes far too long to get corrective action.

Sounds like you would make a fine replacement Dave.

    I'd be

every hack's worst nightmare! Not sure the legal system could handle the citation-load I'd be handing out, but the unlicensed bums would be getting a real run for the money(G).

Michael Lee, the inspector up for De-Certification, has ruffled so many feathers along the way, there's not much support for him any longer. He had no one to answer to & that's a major part of the problem we have with other PI's. The operate with total dictatorial impunity.

He's only the 4th PI to be De-Certified in all of PA.

    I think

It would be a good fit for you. You should give it a try. Just don't expect the tests to be as simple as that HI thingy.

It was my father that pushed me to obtain licensure and I'm glad I took his advice. It has made me a much smarter contractor. Let me know if I can help? I'm not really hip on the administration in Skeeterville (just kidding) but from what you say about them, getting a license sounds like a snap out there.

    Ditto for me too

Went to a NEC code update class in York a few years ago...instructor said no licensing requirements were in effect at that time.

That was the only trade licensed! You wanted to be an electrician? Poof - the trade fairy annointed you as one. Same for any other branch of the trades.

Inspectors were simply appointed - no experience or training required - by the code book regs, this was OK. As a result, we got a tremendous variety of odd-minded individuals who found they answered to no one & could make up any rules they saw fit or to suit their mood.

Then came the new state-wide code & in their infinite wisdom, they decided to grandfather these same inspectors, but give them much wider latitude by having them inspect all aspects of the trades!!!!!!! Things have been mighty weird ever since. All bets are off as to how each inspector will interpret the codes and many have chosen to abuse the powers of the office. We need our licenses (at least, those of us who play by the rules), so we're, for the most part, afraid to speak up for fear we'll suffer greatly at the whims of ticked-off inspectors who still answer to no one but themselves.

The consumers are the real victims. The news reports surrounding this inspector's de-certification are real horror stories with new 1/2-mill-$ homes that are literally falling apart.

    another one bites the dust

    Robert,

Not sure I could play well with politicians(G). Just found out today that our little Skeeterville lost its fifth PI in two years - another quitter. The same guy who had told me, when I met him, that he'd be calling me because he had a lot to learn.

And, a fire inspector quit today too. Told me that after 25-years, he can't stomach the BS any longer. York is in dire straights financially and the codes admin depts are in total disarray. It's the worst I've seen in 38 years and there's no prospects for it to improve!
