That tee needs to go, where the riser comes up from the header, never bull head a tee, and the copper main needs to be replaced with Blk pipe, more photos showing the near boiler piping will aid us as well, i cant see how the equalizer is tied together. the riser to the main should be down stream of the two risersfrom the boiler, then up to the mains, i would have a riser for each direction of the main, not bull tee'd into it

boiler pipe installation questions and can I post pictures?

I took some pictures of the way the pipes for our upper apartment boiler are installed. To my eye, compared with the information in Dan's book, and the installation instructions which I have; the pipes are installed incorrectly.

On Page 78 of We Got Steam Heat, Dan's refers to making sure that if there are two risers to the headers (which we seem to have), then the installtion has to be as shown in his diagram on the left side of the page and not as drawn on the right side of the page.

As near as I can tell, these pipes look most close to the WRONG diagram in both Dan's book and in the boiler installation instructions and are installed incorrectly.

If I can post the pictures or email them to someone, it may be possible for them to tell me if I am correct in my assessment that the these pipes are improperly installed.

If I am correct, then what are the consequences? How quickly do I need to fix this, etc.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I have taken some more pictures that i hope provide the information you suggest. I think I will place them in a new thread as the title of this is a bit misleading. Newbie mistakes!

Thanks again Dave. I had already started the new thread and I then saw your latest post. As for your question, I honestly don't know; I was trying to following the diagrams in the installation instructions when I realized the pipes didn't look right. The rest of it I am still sorting out. I knew nothing about steam heat until last week and still feel like I don't know much.
