Here`s One

I have a guy who wants me to install an indirect water heater. So I figured everything and told him(he wants to buy everything himself), to buy a Triangle-Tube Smart 40. Then he winds-up with an HL-36 and the "Wholesaler" tells him its the same as the Smart. Problem is, this HL(on the tank), says to introduce the boiler water on the top(side tapping for the "tank- within-a-tank), and the Smart says at the bottom. The manual say`s at the bottom, but the location "stickers" on the tank say the opposite, I`ve always put the boiler feed at the bottom, but this guy wants to argue, what do you think?

    Tell him

Any normal contractor would tell him to call the factory monday and get it straight from the horses mouth. Since the materials were purchased and furnished by him, any problems or issues with said materials should be his to resolve.

Or you could do what I'd do and call the factory yourself or look it up on line. :)
  • Already thought of that Steve,,,,,,,,,

Actually Triangle-Tube was very accomodating, but he had no answers as to why the "stickers" were switched.

    I'd go

With what the factory says. If he still has a problem......then I guess I WOULD tell him to call the factory himself.

You can lead a horse to water.............
  • Thanks Steve,,,,,,

That`s what I`m gonna do, I even printed the Emails for him to see!
    Thanks Again- Dave.

    The biggest problem

The biggest problem is letting the guy buy his own stuff. A company I used to work for took on a job where the guy got his parts through a friend of a friend. Brand name tank, brand name relay, 2 of them cause he knew how it should be wired, and a brand name circ. I'm there in the morning when one of the installers told him only one relay would be used period. End of day I am back to help clean up. They can't get the system to work. Long story short circ has a big piece of slag in the case blocking it up. Change to the smaller circ we carry, (this unit called for the bigger one) tell the guy what we find, tell him smaller one works on tanks we put in he says ok he will return the bigger circ. Now time goes on he has plenty of hot water with the smaller circ. He bugs my boss to come back for free, DON'T THINK SO, and change circ. Boss says you authorized using the smaller one. Now he bugs the circ people. Ends up he is such a pain that the circ guy tells my boss if you just go change it out with X, I will give you the part plus one for your inventory. (they couldn't give money in this case).

Moral of the story, if they want to buy it they can install it.

    rates

Your rates are too low! Remember to increase yearly for inflation.
  • Hey Dave,,,,,,,,,

puts new meaning to "slap him silly" ya know! BTW Leo,I also had a guy who had problems with a circ, when it was casted there was a "bridge" right at the impellor opening, let a little flow through but not much. It was on one of those outdoor wood boilers. Quite a chore he had to figure that-one out. So I was told.
