Peerless Pinacle Problems

Is there cork gaskets on the inducer flange and flange block. I have found that these cork gaskest would fail and raw gas was getting sucked back into the inlet of the venter. New Venters were sent with new rubber gaskets but the block gasket seldom got changed. Just thought I would through that out there

    Peerless Pinacle Problems

    We purchased a new Peerless Pinacle gas boiler in 2002. Since the install we have had to have the blower replaced 4 times. I am wondering if anyone else has encountered such a problem?

    Peerless Pinicle is a munchkin with a Peerless green poorly fitted plastic jacket.Problems I have are too numerous to mention. Have 2 here at my house had to take back from installations and will try to use for pool heat and zones i,m adding w/radiant so I can recover some of losses from trying to keep these bad boys running.Blowers replaced by manufacturer which "have the problem corrected" are failing also.Cut your LOSSES by having it removed and a reliable brand installed. There are many.Peerless is getting better at getting the parts to you but the down times call backs and counterproductivity are things we dont have adaquate margins for anymore.

    Only one blower.

    I have MANY Pinnacles and Munchies out there. I only replaced ONE blower assy on a unit that we did not install. I chalked it up to the unit getting its combustion air too close to a laundry vent. Figured it was chlorine fumes that made the impeller wheel disintigrate.

    Replacement has been running for a couple of seasons, and all is well.

    All in all, I find the Munchie/Pinnacle is super reliable and very troublefree. Every customer that has one has sold or tried to sell their neighbors a unit. Never had that with a boiler before.

    a recurring problem.

    Recurrent problems are generally related to an onesite condition, I.E. exhaust gas recycling, abnormal wind pressures, dust induction (think corn pollen) and so on and so forth.

    Yes, they had an issue with fans, but they didn't make the fans, someone else did. They did step up to the pump and do the right thing IMHO. Most manufacturers just walk away from the problem.

    I'd recommend you look at the installation manual and make sure it is in exact compliance with the manufacturers installation instructions. My guess is you will find a root reason/cause for the component failure.

    Generally speaking, when I get to my 2nd component failure, I start looking around for the real reason.

    When I discover the real reason, and correct it, the problems usually abate themselves.

    In other words, If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you always got.

    Venting

    Is your boiler vented to manufacturer's specs? If not then the exhaust is possible being sucked into the boiler and killing the blower.

    check specs in manual for venting, determine how long of a run is accaptable and see what you have. remember each elbow or 45 counts as up to 5' or more. maybe it needs a condensation tee or drip. good luck

    yep, i agree w/ helsel. cut your losses and buy a decent boiler. you have to service those boilers yearly and religiously. I live in the upper midwest and we have problems w/ corn pollen also. I've also had one w/ a bad fan that someone installed a 1/2" gas line to. check that

    I did a service call on a Peerless (built 2002) two years ago and found out it was the variable speed draft inducer blower motor. The supplier (the original installer was not around) sent us the replacement inducer gratis and made mention that they were have A LOT of trouble with these motors. We replaced it and then diagnosed other piping problems with the system and ended up gutting the whole enchilada and switching brands. So we don't have a good history of whether or not it would have failed in the future but we do have a "two" year old boiler that I thought I might try to resale but after reading this I'll probably keep it for another 20 years before junking it. (you know what I mean).

    They should have sent an extra blower in every box with a check for $200 to pay for the call back. Thanks HTP for making this and thanks to Peerless for distributing...

    Try the Buderus GB142 or Triangle Tube Prestige, far superior performers!

    I only have 5 installed, one lost a blower but all the rest have been doing there job, they are a little flimsy but no problems to speak of as long as they are set up right at first and serviced and flushed out annualy. Just my experience. Tim
