Ms. Robbins' Warm Air Furnace

Andrea, Your installer did the right thing by providing for adequate combustion air. The combustion air needs to be ducted directly into the furnace closet/room. This can only be done by adding ducts to carry the air. The installation manual that came with the new equipment will detail the requirements. Is this an 80% furnace that vents up the chimney? Armstrong Air makes a nice direct vent 80% that has sealed combustion and pulls outside air through a single 3" PVC intake though I'm afraid it's a little late for that.

Hope this helps.

I took the liberty of reposting this on a new thread so we can address this person's problem.

Dear Sir, As we are pensioners, we qualified to get our old gas warm air furnace replaced. The engineers who fitted it increased the fresh air vents, and we do understand why. The problem is, the furnice is in the centre of the house, which means the vent draws in cold air from the outside straight into the hall along with the rain, as there is no physical link to the furnace. The result is a very cold damp hall. The lounge door is opposite the vent, so there is a very cold draught, and the themostat cuts in costing us money. This is not efficient use of power. We have insulated the walls and the loft, and replaced windows and the front door. Is there any way the vent can be re-routed? I could really do with advise here.
