New GAs Steam Boiler
Just installed a Burnham gas boiler to replace old oil fired Weil Mclain.
The backof the house has 4 radiators with a return
and heats up in 20min.The front ,the closest to the boiler is a one pipe system
and bangs upon getting steam followed by exhaling then inhaling air taking about 1hr.30min to heat up.Sometimes during this process the second radiator in the front starts pissing out water Hmm, thats not good.
The pipe leading from the old boiler was on the top going toward the front of the house and the main toward the back was t-ed below it.On the new system
the piping is opposite of that.
Guess we have a few problems here and any help would be appreciated thanks.0 -

Check for
a clogged return from that steam main. If water backs up into the main, it can cause some of those symptoms.

find there are some things that we did not anticipate.0 -
always respect GAS
First thing you should do is shut off the gas until you get a qualified lic. plumber TO check & o.k. the installation. gas can be quite dangerous when not installed properly. to save a few bucks , you are putting yourself & your family at great risk.0 -

pitch
Sounds that possibly when you re-connected existing house piping you may have lost the pitch creating a physical water trap . a lot of old piping has no hangers to speak of and if the main drops a smidgon----away goes the pitch . maybe you can cut in a drip near the boiler piping0 -
Best to replace those returns
form the point where they drop below the waterline, until they get to the Hartford Loop. Old return pipes are generally nasty enough inside that replacement is the best option.

New Boiler
Thanks -looks like thats what we try on Tuesday.I will keep you posted.0 -
If those pipes carry steam
copper is a no-no. If they only carry water, it should be OK.

new steam boiler
Plumber reversed the pipes from boiler to the mains today back to what they were on the original
set up.NO more banging or pissing or inhaling radiators. The front heated up in 20min.back within another 20min.Total 40min.
originally took 1hr.and 45min. piped the other way.
I still am not sure why he used copper instead of black pipe. Is it easier to work with?Well heat is here and thats a good thing .Thanks for your help0
