low water cut-off problem

I am a new owner of a home with a steam heater, so this is all a little new for me. For the past month the system has been working fine, even heating, the water feeder turns on if the levels are too low, etc. The problem ove rthe past two days is that the low water cut-off is activating the water feeder even when the water levels are high. This leads to the boiler flood ing and water pours down the face and all over the floor. What is the solution, new low water cut-off? Is the probe corroded / dirty? In the mean time I have shut-off the water feeder and have been keeping a close eye on the water level. Any help would be appreciated.

low water cut off
If the LWCO is an electronic model, yes the probe could be dirty. ANY steam boiler equipped with an electronic LWCO should have the probe pulled and cleaned annually along with the boiler servicing. If the LWCO is mechanical and has a float, this is a common probolem and both the LWCO and the feeder should be serviced ASAP
