Can I directly connect 2, 2 pipe steam radiators together?
you want to connect the two-together in "series or tandem", using a nipple, with the supply at 1 end, and 1 trap at the other. Is this what your thinking? If the steam enters the first rad, say, on the left side, it will condense and want to leave via the trap, but its not there as you will have a nipple connecting the 2nd rad, now that nipple has 2 jobs, draining the condensate from the 1st rad, and allowing live-steam (squeezed down), to pass through to the 2nd rad, at this point it`ll likely "hammer" like crazy! I would say trying this is not a good idea!

Connect radiators together
Can I connect 2 - 2 pipe steam cast iron radiators together? They are the same height but different lengths. I would like to increase the amount of heat in the room that is being remodeled and do not want to run additional feeds to the other radiator.0 -
You can do anything you want...........................
and it might work fine if you are really familiar w/ 2 pipe systems and trap properly. However, it doesn't sound like the best way to go AND how is it gonna look? Mad Dog0 -
Thanks - why would the trap set-up be any different than using the single radiator? Also, will connecting the two radiators together provide me with an exponenetial increase in heat?
Thanks0 -
On second thought,,,,,,,,
At first I was thinking about you connecting them "just across the bottom", but if they have plugs at the top and bottom,(at their connecting ends of course), and are the same size and height(privided you can get them out!) Just make sure the piping between the 2 is the full size of the tapping, don`t reduce, and don`t spread them very far apart.
Basically this way, (barring supply and return pipe sizes), you`ll be making 2 rads into 1. You should be OK, and it will give you more heat as you are increasing the EDR. If you do reduce the sizing between the 2, you`ll have to trap each one , as one rad will likely condense the steam faster than the other. But like Mad Dog says, how`s it gonna look?0 -
How big is the valve supplying it?
What size is the run-out and riser pipe?
If you can feed it enough steam (not usually a problem on two-pipe), and put the smaller radiator first, and connect the two radiators FULL SIZE without any bushings, then trap size and return piping size and radiator size are the next variables. Noel0
