Will Gorton vents work with convectors?

Seth,
Are the mains properly vented? Those vents are larger to quickly vent the larger volume of the pipe. Once the mains are filled with steam, then the convector vents will take care of the air in the convectors.

All, I went to the actual Gorton site and they use only radiators for examples. Will the vents work with convectors? Thats what I have. Most of my convectors will not heat up fast enough unless I take the vent totally off and feel for heat on the pipe coming in and then hurry up and put them back on.0 -
yes
they work the same with convectors.

The mains have small vent-rites on them. There are 2 mains. What I want to do is buy 2 Gorton #2's and then see how my system works. I still don't know if I want to replace all the convector vents to Gorton because I'll be spending like 400 bucks. I'll put the Gorton#2's on and buy a couple of vents from home depot or something and then see how it works.0 -
Vents
And how much do you think you'll spend if you DON'T change the air vents? Pay now or pay later...(forever)0 -
I give up, Charles.
If he changes ALL of his vents, including all of the ones that might still be working properly, how much will he save?
Scare tactics and troubleshooting are two different methods for getting working vents on a system.

Thanks guys, What I am going to do is take all 19 out of all my convectors and try to blow through them. If I can't, then I will replace them. I think my main problem is the main vents. I took the 1st main vent off and then started my boiler. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for the first convector to heat up rather than the normal 40 minutes I am used to. I still think thats too long for the first convector to heat up. (20 mins?)0 -
break that 20 min down to evaluate it
1. time from call for heat to steam in the header (depends on boiler and start up conditions)
2. time from #1 to steam at end of main
3. time from #2 to steam at the rad valve (end of run out / riser)
4. time from #3 to radiator full of steam
venting will only affect #2 -4.0 -
Noel....great to hear from you again. I've missed your wise counsel....so good to hear from you again!...John0
