Radiators providing heat with thermostats off.

I just added a second heating zone to the second floor of my home. After the second zone was added, even with the new thermostat (or both thermostats) turned off, or even disconnected, if the boiler is on, hot water is provided to the radiators. I had the electrician check the thermostat rely, and that appears to be working, and the circulator is installed in the proper direction. Any ideas?

    flow control

You have a gravity circulation. I assume the burner is off and the hot water comes up. You could try setting the max temp down but the fix is flow control valves. There should be one on the outlet of each zone pump. If there is and set correctly, the top know turned in so the check weight isn't held up, then you need to add a check valve to the return also. Phantom gravity circulation is a pretty common problem.

    you said circulator not plural

    check your zonevalves.

  • Thanks. That did the trick. I'm surprised that my plumber didn't adjust the valves or know the fix when I called him about it. You saved me a lot of headaches.

    Was that really necessary?

If you are joking, a smiley would be a nice touch. If not, why say anything potentially insulting to one so willing to help? I trust Weezbo.

  • I didn't take his initial comments as funny but as insulting to me.

I do appreciate all the helpful comments and suggestions that I received. I apologize if I misunderstood Weezbo's humor. Sorry to all. My bad.
