Any solar experts in Eastern MA?

I have a relative in the Maynard area that has a Sunwave Solar system. The array on their roof is enormous, yet the system apparently produces little usable heat. They wonder if its performance can be improved as it came with the house and they can't get in contact the original installer.

Part of the problem may be in how the system was configured, i.e. the use of hydro-air coils. The coils are bigger than the duct they're mounted in, but I wonder if the 2000 gallon (!!!) tank currently reaches the requisite temperature to produce anything more than the cold drafty air currents they report. The system is controlled by a C120 Energy Manager, which still seems to be working (but who really knows).

So, anyone out there who knows these systems and how to bring them back to life? If you're interested or know of someone, please reply or drop me an e-mail. Cheers!

was an indepenednt energy control that had a few readouts, storage temp and collector at least. See if the collector readout is displaying, if they check it durring sunny days and record the temps, you may be able to tell if the collectors are stagnating which will tell you that they are getting no or very little heat exchange, could be either the circulator, heat exchanger, or maybe the thing never worked to begin with. Check the storage temp at the begining of the day and the end of the day, see if it is doing anything at all, If the tank does get hot, then the problem is on the distribution side.

    Thanks everyone!

I'll get in touch with Bob and I'll see if I can't dig up my "lessons learned" book to see if it has any clues. Thanks again!
