So I fired it....

If you have a good purge, the Thermic is doing what it is SUPPOSED to do. And when it thinks things are OK, it will proportionally release the excess heat out to the system. It's not something most hydronic heating contractors are used to. WIthout it, you fire the system, shock the boiler and eventually get a hot return. With this system, assuming everything is correct, it BLEEDS heat out to the system while maintaining a return temp above the dew point.
Turn it on, and walk away, come back later and everything will be nice and toasty.
A watched boyle never potts.

So I fired the system shown in the picture under the 'tomorrow I fire it' thread...and had some problems. If I totally kill the return from the 3 15-58's, the primary loop heats. If I crack the ret, any more than 1/16th, it cools the pri ret too much and the TV closes. Could it be the 007 is too small. I figure my flow in the primary is around 10gpm. I have the TV bypass valve throttleddown to about 1/4 flow from the 11/4 it is. Any advise? Please?

Proportional heating devices and system require time to establish their balance. As ME wisely said, "walk way, come back later". Best if that "later" is when there's a decent load on the system after it has operated in the normal fashion for a few days.0 -
Should the return be left wide open? And the thermic bypass? Short cycled like mad! Only when I cut the ret way back did it actually heat the primary. Could also be that the system was COLD from a fresh fill...primary was at 180*, but the bypassed portion would not heat with the secondary return open.

Proper Proportional Portage Protects Perfectly..
We'll call this the five P principle. Or would that be the 6 p Principle...
Whatever.. The factory dawrings can be somewhat cornfusing. If you installed it backwards, you are only flowing the primary through the 1/16th inch hole that is the bypass to bleed hot water to the thermostatic element. The #1 port should be connected to your boiler return and the 3 hole is always the bypass.
Also, the two spring checks on your primary represent a significant amount of pressure drop. You will need to partially choke the thermic bypass to overcome the pressure drops of the devices in the primary circuit.
Why so many check valves in the primary? If you need checks any where, its in the secondaries. You can get reverse flow through an off circuit that will drive you absolutely NUTS trying to track it down...
But checks on the primary won't do a thing but eat head.
Heres the Thermic installation drawings. Note the translation confusion.

Luckily for me there were big arrows on the valve face, which was pointed towards the wall to get the correct direction. When the pri heats enough, the TV does open, and all flows. The checks on the pri are to stop migration durring a DHW call. Now the pri circulates on all calls, but it will be setup to not circ on a DHW call. Does anyone prefer the TV on supply? Benifits to either placement? Thanks for the time! I looooooooove this place!

Oh, THAT's the problem....
The arrows are supposed to be on the INSIDE of the pipe so the WATER knows what direction to flow ;-)
OTAH Buckmeat on the check valves..

Thanks for the advise & time, ME! Is it cold up there yet? Down here in SLC it is a freezin'! OTAH Buckmeat? I'm a bit sloooooow...

Missspelled...
SHould be OTAY Buckmeat. I could be showing my age here.. On Spanky and Our Gang movies (REAL old tyme) there was a little black kid, and whenever Buckwheat would tell him something, and he agreed with it, he'd say "OTAY Buckmeat!" Translated, "OKay Buckwheat".
Sorry for the dark (old) humor :-)
It got UP to 40 degrees today. We set an all time high temperature for Denver on Wednesday of this week at 80 degrees F. Talk about global worming...It's almost mid November!

This past week was great. Was in the 60 & 70's here. Yesterday our deck froze by 5 PM. I stepped on it and whamo!!! I did not see too much our gang I was raised on The Streets of San Francisco (Carl Malden, Michael Douglas) and the orig Mission Impossible series w/ Peter Graves. I also liked the orig Dukes of Hazzard.Just a guy running some pipes.0
