if you wish too..but the boiling inside the boiler itself may trip it back and forth..we put ours on the piping.

Vaporstat issue & Install pics
I've just installed a new Burnham IN6. The job was sold complete with a Tekmar 269, balancing, & all the fixings. The home only requires 1 oz. of pressure per " Lost Art of Steam Heat." So I set the main to 1 & the diff. to 8. It didn't take very long for the control to shut down the boiler. After adjusting it for a while, 8 @ the main with a diff. of 2 kept the boiler firing as long as the thermostat would allow. It only takes the mains under 2 min. to get hot to the main vents.
What can I do to get the Vaporstat to work @ the low pressure it is meant for ?0 -

take it off the boiler.
put the pressuretrol back there..then put the vaporstat on the end of the steam main.

HUH ?0 -
If a home should be able to heat on 1 oz. then why wouldn't it work ?0 -
So in other words I should install a taping somewhere on the main for the pig tail & vaporstat.
1) Remove vaporstat & pigtail, & plug the hole.
2) reinstall vaporstat & pigtail on the main.
Where on the main should it go ?0 -
Do you have a picture ?0 -
Do you have a picture ? thanks0 -

Hey Gerry
With the vaporstat there (which I also prefer), what's the aquastat do?
Noel0 -
I put it at the very end of the main where it drops down to the wet return. Thank you very much. You ROCK !!!!
Your balancing steam minibook does too !!0 -
hi Noel,
its the trigger to drop the boiler into low fire with a two stage gas valve..once there we heat a 30 radiator house at less than one ounce of pressure..its a Mouat waterseal vapor system.

Curley wires...
Gee Gerry,
I curl my wire leads too... North of the equator we curl them clockwise, right? Helps the electrons pick up momentum.

swing joints are needed
at the top of the risers.

? I am not familiar to what you mean.0 -
looks pretty too!
i've been told my wiring is ugly..least that what Steve Pajek tells me..he's right tho..it does look better with curley wires.

and why are they needed ?0 -
the tops of the vertical pipes
coming out of the boiler need a 90 degree turn before tieing together..so that the pipe in between them can expand and twist the 90's instead of binding the boiler.

you mean drop headers ?0 -
drop headers are all we do,
so i don't have any pictures of a ''standard'' header..but both allow expansion of the pipe between them without exerting pressure against the iron..anyone got a standard header picture to help us out?

So drop headers aren't only for "dryer steam" but for expansion as well. The client loves the even heat she's getting, and stable room temps. Next time I'll do the drop headers. Learn something new every time. Thanks again !0 -
Where the riser comes up from the boiler there is a 90 then a horizontal pipe then another 90 down to the drop header, but you can just pipe the header at the second 90 without dropping that gives some play when the pipes get hot and twists and keeps the stress off the boiler. Like in Franks pic below just without dropping back down ie the header can go where his second set of 90's going down are on the horizontal pipes.

Thank you !0 -
What problems can occur the way I have it piped ?0 -
Putting undue
stress on the boiler sections can lead to cracked or pulled away boiler sections. those excess 90's are all stress relievers.0 -
do you think hopefully the unions can take away some(but not all) of the stress ? Next time I will definetly put in the drop headers. However I've seen boilers piped way way worse with bull head tees & everything last 20+ years.0 -
I think the problem is linear
stress and the unions will not help there, they will only swivel as much as a 90 could.0 -
And the jobs ability for dry steam as it is ?0 -
I think the piping on my new boiler fits the bill..
