Click on the "Homeowners" or "Shop" button at the top of this page, pick up Dan's book "We got steam heat", or maybe even "Lost art", they have lots of excellent info on your system, written in plain English even! You won't regret it....will most likely pay you back many times over in energy savings and increased comfort.

    Steam Radiator Venting normal?

I have a 400KBTU single pipe steam boiler (WeilMcClain) in the house we just purchased. I think everything is ok, but I need to know if a few things are normal. My radiator vents intermittently blow air for about 30-60 seconds VERY often. By often, I would say every 5 to 30 minutes. Is thi normal and is it normal to happen even when the thermostat shouldn't be calling for heat? My pressure guage never gets off of zero. Is the loop tube clogged?

I can heartily second that reccomendation! We bought and old house about this time last year, and Dan's books have been priceless in getting me up to speed and helping to select competent heating professionals (once you realize that you know more than the guy who is there to service your burner it's easy to start looking for a new service company).
