but the majority of gas mid-efficients i install are a locally built steel. All welded, industrial grade. Great boilers, service some that are now over 40 years old.

    Columbia Steel Boilers Anygood?

I need to install a steel boiler for a price job. I had been using Burnham for these jobs but my wholesaler isn't carrying them anymore.I liked the Burnham steel boiler too, so I'm not to happy. He is selling Columbia's now. The Emerald Series.
Anyone use them before? I can get a New Yorker at another place but I know it will cost me more because we dont do much business there.

    Given

the price of fuel and the price difference between a Columbia steel and a Burnham/Weil/Peerless is it really worth few hundred dollars to not go with a CI wetbase?

    I pressume...

that it will also have a tankless coil...I used a few of them years back...it was just so so...I have found A Smith Series 8 to be be VERY competitive w/ any steel boiler....why only steel? The other steel boiler I used that was inexpensive was the Thermodynamics S series...kpc

    what about the Columba

Casco Ray CBX is a three pass horizonal tube boiler?
Energy star rated and it can have a tankless coil. Even the LV low mass 2 pass steel model is better then the emeral.

    cheap he wants

    then cheap he gets: emerald
  • I prefer wet-base too

but the Emeralds I've seen tend to hold up well. Not sure about the Casco Bay, never used one, but at least in the Baltimore area Columbias are very well supported.

    Pretty good for.........

......what it is. Columbia, New Yorker AP, Thermo Dynamics, etc. I just installed one in a clients rental with a tankless coil. Piped it P/S with two pumps because of the CI radiation. Sweet. They have heat in radiators that would not warm up previously with the old tankless coil boiler.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

    Boiler

Well, it's not really answering the question, but I have had extremely good results with the Thermo-Dynamics S-100. Just a great unit for the money.

Just for FYI- Columbia, Thermo-Dynamics and EFM boilers are all made in the Thermo-Dynamics plant as they are all part of the Columbia Company, along with Boyertown Furnace.

    Columbia boilers

I have been using them for a few months now and for a steel boiler they are pretty good. Good warranty also. I have installed 5, EM-3100's since the beginning of October. I like the EM-3100 because they are energy star rated and are built a little heavier than the standard EM.
