1961 Montgomery Ward 65,00 btu fuel oil heater

Is an old-style carborator fed free standing heater? If so, a replacement might be found. You will need to check with a hardware store/supplier of the "old style".
Most new style box stores won't carry that stuff.

??? on McCorkel control for 1961 Mont. Ward heater

I have a 1961 Montgomery Ward 65,000 btu heater for my garage that uses fuel oil. I just bought $400 worth of oil before the last one died. This one replaced an old lennox that had a tired "dead" transformer. The Wards furnace has a McCorkel control for monitoring the oil input. I can't figure out how to keep the pilot light going. It has a manual lever that when moved will allow oil to go into the chamber and appears to stay flowing as long as the lever is opened manually. I have a thermostat hooked up and am not sure if it is working. What can I do to check this. I have 120v going in to the electical section which has a coil and two metal plates on top of each other, the bottom one moves up if you move the external lever over to manual oil feed. I haven't been able to find any information on McCorkel Contols.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    replacement

This is what I replaced the lennox with. Not many used oil burning stoves of furnaces out there. Thanks for the reply, but with todays technology there has to be a simple retro fit for the old style relay.. I will keep digging.

    Thanks again.

    Kero

Some of the older "heaters" used kerosene not fuel oil.

Thanks Ed, I will do some looking at one of the older hardware stores.. Until then I will flip the lever and feed the stove manually. Money is tight and working in the shop when it is cold isn't as fun as it used to be.

    thanks again
