with only a supply line from the tank. You will need to look at the instructions for the tigerloop as well as the pump to determine pipe sizing as well as whether or not a lift pump (no tigerloop needed) or two stage pump needs to be used. Use the bottom of the tank as the oil level because that is the worst case. Hope this helps.

    Tiger loop

    Can anyone tell me about a Tiger loop on an oil line? It's going to be on a line off of an indoor,above ground oil tank line. It supplies a duct furnace about ten feet off the floor on a mezzanine level. he piping run is about 35' for the supply and 35' for the return. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    If you are using a tigerloop, then why are you running a return line? A tigerloop, is installed near the burner, and connects to the burner using a supply and return line. But you only need a supply line from the tank to the tigerloop. This is clearly explained in the tigerloop instructions.

    Why are you using one?

    Always check the oil pump install manual to check to see if it can handle the lift, and run of oil line from the oil tank to the burner. What burner is installed in the furnace?

    Cosmo, After reading about the Tiger loop, I see that you and the others who responded to my thread are correct in that only one line is necessary. After I posted my question, I was able to find some info through this site. I also agree that the loop is beneficial to the systems performance in all aspects. Thanks to all who responded. I will contact my local oil parts supplier tomorrow(oops, I mean today) and pick up a Tiger loop and make sure of the other questions that you guys posed to me.

    I asked why you want to install a tiger loop because maybe you have an unrelated problem taht the Tigerloop may not address.

    I use Tigerloops on basically every new oil burner install. In addition to all the benefits listed by the other posters, one major benefit is the fact that the oil line will only pull what is needed by the nozzle, as compared to a 2 pipe system. Filter life is increased tremendously, and in cases where you are pulling oil from an underground tank or from outside an additional benefit is that by eliminating the return line you eliminate the condensation that occurs when a two pipe system pulls oil in the building, then after warming the oil spits it back in the tank.

    The only place I may refrain from using a tigerloop is on situations where the oil tank is signifigantly higher than the burner. But refer to instructions and you will be fine.
