2 thermostats on one zone????

I am setting up my basement playroom and the heat is on the same zone as my dining room on the main living level.

Can I setup a slave type of t-stat to the zone? If so can someone give me the basics.

Do I run the wire to the exisiting zone valve or to the stat etc?

Thanks

you can, but will overheat one of the rooms

all you will do is call for heat in the cooler room before you would in the warmer room, thus overheating. As long as you use a common power wire feeding both t-stats so you only feed 24 volts to the relay you can do it. Using the same 24 v transformer will accomplish this.

You can 'parallel' the wiring so if one or the other calls for heat, it will fire. If both call for heat, it will fire, and if one releases, it will continue to fire until both release. If you 'series' the t-stats, both would have to call for heat before the loop would close and fire.

You might try panel radiators w/thermostatic heads

for the basement rooms. It's more likely you're going to need heat upstairs rather than down. Thermostatic heads will help reduce the flow through the basement panel radiators reducing the chance you'll overheat the basement.

They are more money but look better and are more robust than baseboard.

    HoneyWell VisonPro

With a VisionPro and an extra internal sensor it would average across the two locations if that is what you are trying to achieve.

BTW, what is the goal for having the 2 t-stats?

  • Try looking into a 2 zone motorized damper system. Comfort in both areas. Mike

  • Oooops, did not see zone valve, forget motozed damper system. Mike
