A.I.M. Boiler Room in a Box

Thanks for the response. My application will be using Warmboard and not "suspended radiant with foil in the back". So far, they appear to be creating a system specifically to my requirements.

Are your comments from first hand experience or, are you basing them just on their web page contents?

A.I.M. Boiler Room in a Box

I am in the process of "plumbing" the radiant heat for my house. The house is constructed using the Warmboard, www.warmboard.com, radiant panel subfloor system. I have asked for a quote from A.I.M Radiant Heating Systems, www.aimradiantheating.com/, for one of their preassembled "Boiler Room in a Box" units. I supplied them the heat loss/Title 24 information and Warmboard provided piping diagrams.

I'm curious if anyone has any experiences with A.I.M. or perhaps some other similar vendor.

I have tried searching for messages with "A.I.M." or "AIM" in their text but that does not appear to return any items of interest. Thanks for any responses or ideas.

    I have

I tried helping out a DIY that had one of those. A real mess. The Takagi setup is ill designed, not up to code, etc. etc. Use a real boiler and indirect instead and you will be much better off.

i just think you would be better off with a better boiler and piping arrangement. with out door indoor reset and a better way for mixing down.

aim is for people that cant pipe there own boiler

    good luck

I will be supplying my own heated water via a Polaris - American Water Heater Co., Model: PG1050-130-2NV. I will not be using a tank-less heater such as the Takagi units that A.I.M. can supply. I guess that I should have included this in my original query, but I didn't consider it an issue.

    Thanks again for the responses.

Stop. Seek some local help. You need some real help, and not just a salesman. Make your purchases from a firm that has roots in your commuity. You will know were to find them when you need some real help or a replacement componet. Purchase a radiant package that has been designed for your home. Warmboard is not a packaged system but most well established firms such as Viega(formally Stadler)can work with this product and your wholesaler to produce a real working design, and not a box full of parts.

    Why do they ask...

...for our opinions and then get defensive when we tell them.

Go ahead and buy it. Then we can say --

    "We told you so".

Maybe Home Depot will give you a deal!

They ask because they have no experience with this vendor and wis hoping someone on this board does. I don't think that I was "defensive", just trying to understand the responder's basis for their opinion.

I don't see where you have provided any opinion regarding A.I.M. so I guess I'll remind myself that "Opinions are just like (substitute your favorite body part), everybody's got one", and hope for a reasoned response or experience from someone else.

    Thanks for your view however.

Like you (presumably), I'm mainly just a homeowner.

There is a true art to hydronics and you're asking artists their opinion of pre-made assemblies. Their reaction is perfectly predictable.

You've chosen an exceptional emission system yet it seems that you want to cheap out on the driver.

Study, study, study. Do, do, do. Report your success but don't expect sympathy for failure.

Do your numbers, use a Vitodens and FHVs (floor heat valves) and freak out this forum with your reports.

  • Does anyone in your area know how to service a Polaris, and/or have parts for it?

they are finicky units. And for the price, you could get a nice modulating condensing boiler that would do a better job. Plus make your piping extremely simple.
