Sexiest Plumber Bashes Flat Rate

Mad Dog I hear what your saying, but at least Jessica has an entertainment value, and she has a great voice, (among other things) and she's single, now. I never thought she should start to offer business advice or have a seminar, might be an idea for wet stock 2006. But seriously, Will hit the nail on the head, the HVAC Insider is a touchy feeling Mag that really isn't published to offer serious business advice. I do like the technical articles, but this sexest plumber babe I think does nothing to improve our industries image, maybe sell some lame calendars, but little else.

    re: HVAC Insider

Hey guys, Happy New Year. I just read an article in the New England HVAC insider, apparently America's Sexiest Plumber
Lori-Sardinha-Costa has a problem with flat rate pricing. Our company uses flat rate pricing, the pricing is established after sound accounting principles, with offering excellent service while making a profit. Sound business practice, well in the article Ms. Costa seems to have a problem with companies making a profit. Pricing the job upfront, and giving the customer the option of approving the price or not, I think it is critical, to having good customer relations. In reading the article I felt irritated that this women is so mis-informed, and ignorant to the topic, but since she won a beauty contest she can now write a column? Some of the comments she wrote are ridiculous, statements like: "Since Flat Rate has no foundation in the facts of the business, it is difficult to explain the price to the customer" Huh? What was that? I would love to have debate with Ms. Costa on the pros and cons of flat rate. Read the article whether your a T&M contractor or flat rate, you won't believe the content, it's really embarrassing. It is sad that HVAC Insider can not find a decent columnist, and has to resort to this dribble. This type of rubbish just reflects poorly on our industry.

    Credentials

My wife recently voted me "The Worlds Biggest Pain in the Butt". I'm looking for any and all endorsement deals. I'll talk about toilet paper, soothing creams containing aloe vera and anything else necessary to make a buck. Don't bother checking my credentials, my wife is always right. I will do my best to stay true to my title. Thanks in advance to all of you.

    Jim-

Too many people assume that just because they have a microphone, rag mag that will print them, or soap box, that they know of what they speak. Doesn't it speak to the quality of that "publication" (more ads and company back patting than anything else, IMHO) that "the sexiest plumber in America" should even be remotely be taken seriously?
Whoops-Let me get off this soap box! LOL!

Look, Jim.......Jessica Simpson says something stupid

every time she opens her mouth. Paris Hilton is more or less a function moron too. Not saying this girl is....never met her, but Good looks and intelligence do not always go hand-in-hand. She's entitled to her opinion. I hope its printed in next months P & M. I'll respond top that. Mad Dog

    Right On

This woman has no qualifications to be offering business advice or comments. Whoever dreamed up the idea of "sexiest plumber" should be neutered. Why?? So more men will read trade magazines?? I'm sure it will inspire hordes of high school seniors to take up a pipe wrench.

Has anyone heard of a metal oil line cover that goes over
oil line instead of covering it with cement?

    What?

I don't know how this question got in here, but if a code says encase it in concrete, you probably ought to use concrete.
