Behind my Back

Asking for advise on how to handle a situation I had today. What do you wallies to when someone goes behind your back and really messes up a job you had done. This particular job was completely finished and operating flawlessly when we finished it. House was sold and new owners by it, coundnt afford our maintenace program and had another company "maintain" the system. This other company claimed "WE (meaning me) really dont know what we are doing with boiler work. Will you let us fix some things?" These owners say "go ahead, after all we need heat." Come to find out these people couldnt afford the house, sell it, and a long time great customer of mine buys the home. In conversation with the new owner (great customer) he tells me all the badmouthing that the other company said about me. I have never met the other contractor and honestly he has no business working on boilers. I know the new owner wouldnt lie to me about all of this so I go over to the house and find the boiler a real mess. Pump and zone valves moved from the supply to the return, spirovent removed, (replaced with a #67 M-O-M), purge valve removed, service switch bypassed, etc.. So now I have to repipe it the correct way but that isnt bad, after all it my job. My question is how to I handle the other contractor badmnouthing me?

Thanks

    The best way

    As the gentleman he is not. Might be hard as hell, but do it anyway.

    Do the work to make it right. You'll prove yourself, and he'll prove himself.

    My personal inclination would be to thank him or buy him lunch next time you see him, after all he made you some money :)

  • I had this happen to me, though the person doing the bad mouthing was a plumber that was doing a bathroom remodel.

    The homeowner called me very upset and I simply scheduled a time to meet with the home owner when the plumber would be there working on the bathroom.

    After I spent about an hour educating him and the homeowner on pumping away and general hydronic science. The homeowner fired the plumber and hired a different one to finish his bathroom.

    Let it go

    Let it go. These things have a way of working themselves out. Be happy you're you---and not him.

    I`ve heard this stuff for years, about others of-course, no matter what the job! Thing is, it happens to everybody and it will happen again! I agree with Tony, be the "better-man" and just go-on! THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!!

    let it go

    let it go. be thankful you know how to do it and he has not a clue. he is not your competition, just a source of future work for you, fixing his abortions. you should send him a commission check.

    Everything..

    That goes around, comes around. You are the better contractor. Some humans have jealousy/diversity issues.
