main vent question

Hi,
First, are Hoffman Vacuum Valves #16 antiquated? There are 2 on steam mains in my basement and I can't find any info on them (I'm thinking of replacing them).
Second, how do I determine the number of necessary main vents on a one-pipe system? I have a Gorton #2 at the very far end of the house. Some areas closer to the boiler don't have any main vent nearby.
