"The End of Oil" by Paul Roberts, Mariner Press. While I have not yet finished this book (I have four on the go)it is reinforcing my notion that the free ride of low cost oil is essentially over, and that alternatives must be considered now.

I too am reading,
but not that one. I'm reading "Big Coal" by Jeff Goodell.
The sub-title tells all: "The dirty secret behind America's energy future."
I'm about one-thrid through it and unimpressed. The author suggests the major players who mine coal still have a long way to go in the labor involved in getting it from the ground and cleaning up the emmissions. I'm losing interest as he contnues to suggest they will NEVER make the mining component safer, or the emmissions either, regardless of technological advancement.
Being the tree hugger he appears to be, he thinks wind source is the ONLY viable answer for ALL energy needs. He goes on to make obscure data seem to be mainstream and my eyes glaze over thinking, I could be waxing the pickup before winter...
