Burnham V-7 oil boiler

Has anyone had the pleasure of replacing the boiler block on a few Burnham V-7 series boilers, they had a defective cast-iron section, I have replaced my share of them. My question is has anyone replaced one of these and you were also the original installer, if so did you go easy on the customer with billing the replacement. Burnham has done a great job in hiding their problem and has now not allowed a labor reimbursement.

    More than my share

I've certainly seen my share of them, I know they did offer some labor consideration if it was under 8yrs and was the original homeowner.I don't think Burnham ever tried to hide the failure, in fact, they seem to be one of the few manufacturers' who actually acknowledged a problem. The few that I've run into over the last year or so were 12+yrs. I didn't really expect them to pay labor on something that old. I found they were pretty easy to deal with...

Plenty and if I installed it I do go easy on them, Just try to cover myself and a helper for the time we were there.

    I agree...

My recollection from posts past here on the Wall is that Burnham has reimbursed original home owners and installers at least some of the cost of replacing V7 boilers with later models that did not exhibit the same issues. That they would pro-rate the replacement costs is not unusual.

Glenn Stanton has been very upfront about the issues with the V7 and the causes. I don't think anything is being hidden either. It's refreshing to have a manufacturer step up to the plate and deal with the issue openly rather than trying to sweep it under the rug.

That said, it still puts the installer in a quandary. No one likes to tell their customer that a product in their home wasn't stellar after all. Never mind the prospect of eating the installation cost if the customer goodwill is more important to you than the installation cost...
