  • I looked at this this morning..............

It was installed about 1970, can you pick-out the complaints this guy had? Among "other-things", I really liked seeing the air-vent on the relief valve, and the PRV with the fill-trol!
This is "typical" of the installs I see up here, even on newer jobs!!

The air vent off the PRV

    Dave,

Is it possible that the fitting for the PRV and AAV was original equipment? Both the W-M Ultras and the Vitodens have similar PRV/AAV combinations.

Had those AAVs been replaced before they leaked the whole system wouldn't look too bad for a 36 year old install.

Will I need a Nomex suit for saying this? ;-)

honestly it think it may be closer to 40 years old...

the air relife was probably installed to keep water on the seat of the relife at that time, that would be my best conjecture.
    in all fairness...
it does not seem to have burned completely through the burner mounting bracket like some i have replaced.
the low voltage wiring may be looming a little too close for comfort..if you havent turned it off already....

thought you would like that :)

    How fittng.....

The boiler was named after a toilet company! I have thrown away more of these than I ever worked on, never got the chance as they were wasted when I got there.

    That's a beauty bunkie. Chris

    70 ser. Crane boiler

Those boilers were supplyed from the mid section and returned to the bottom, if the air vent was not at that point, there would be a big air pocket at the top where the coil is,the relief valve on the ones i have seen had a tee there and the pipe going up to a expantion tank.
  • Kinda what,,,,,,,,,,,,

I thought Dave, he must have drilled & tapped the nipple, at least that`s what it looked like. The old-lad writes the dates on everything and it said "installed 1970", but its an old house and it may have been a "usey"(not uncommon around here). Another thing that threw me was, he said he never changed the aquastat before, I said it likely had a dual-one on it to operate the pump, but he says no. I can`t see an old strap-on being OEM, just look at the way its wired! But I didn`t argue with him! I was a little short on time this morning, but I`ll have to calculate that place this weekend.
