I tried the system restore thing, but nothing happened. Then go into safe mode again and I saw that the restore could not complete.
This is the first time I have had this kind of trouble with my computers.
I wonder why the system restore won't work? Aw fudge I do not feel like calling tech support and wasting a few hours on this.........
In safe mode I have completed a scan for viruses, and a spyware scan revealed nothing. Looks like this is a saturday deal.

computer problem
My computer automatically downloaded updates from Microsoft, so after installing I restarted my computer, and sadly, when I enter my log on password, the desktop backround comes on for a couple seconds, and then the computer logs off.
I can turn it on in safe mode, but nothing else. I have a call in to Microsoft, and am waiting.
Anyone else experience this?
Good thing I have a laptop, which is what I am using now....

In safe mode
go to Start, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore check Restore my System to and earier Time and Pick a date before today Yesterday or day before upgrade and restore it to then.0 -
Hey Cos.............
I got my updates about noon today, but I didn`t have any prob! Of course I went through the regular re-start, but no hassle on my end!0 -
Try \"Blue Screen\"ing it...
Open the control panel, go into "System", click the "Advanced" tab, click the button for Startup and
Recovery "Settings", and UNcheck "Automatically Restart", and then press "OK" all the way out.
Then reboot into normal mode.
Your computer will probably blue screen, but what you should do is look for the fault on the blue screen (which might be hard to see with all the register values getting dumped on the screen). Write down the fault and post it here.

blue screen
followed instructions, no bluescreen
When I logon with my password, the screen shows the desktop backround for a few seconds as normal, then just logs off.
AAAAA!!!
Thanks anyway,

AAAAA is right!
Have you actually let the PC power down completely? I'd try that in case it is something goofy. Let it shut down completely and then shut off the power bar as well for a short while.
If it was just rebooting constantly it would be a hardware issue like a bad memory chip but this is software, otherwise it would have blue-screened. That's actually good news, but that never matters when it doesn't work.
Give it a minute without any electricity.

Is your XP copy legit?0 -
XP, legit of course. I know enough about computers to know that I am not smarter than Gates.
This problem started with an automatic update from microsoft. WHat bothers me is that the restore does not work.
I also have Norton 2006 internet security, and Ghostsurf.
Ghostsurf is set up to automatically search for spyware. I had quarantined 2 suspicious files that I couldn't find info on.
So in safe mode I reset the quarantined files to "ask". Did not help.
SO now I think I may need to call tech support. I have to get going, had some paperwork to complete this morning, but I have to go get some wrenching done.
still open to any suggestions UniR, I will do the power down, unplug thing now.
Boy how cool is it that I held on to my laptop!!!!!

Registry
I'm not familiar with Ghostsurf.
You'll probably have to edit your registry.
If you are familiar with working with the registry, tell me what is the value for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
Otherwise, call a Pro... Yeah, your update sure went sideways on you.0 -
blue screen

Stop
0X0000000A (0X000000B0, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X805oE33D)

Any other verbage?
If you can take a digital picture of that, it might help technical support.
Edited:
According to Microsoft...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314063
"Stop error 0x0000000A (Stop 0x0A) indicates that there was an attempt in kernel mode to touch pageable memory at too high a process internal request level (IRQL). Typically, this error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error are an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, and incompatible software."0 -
no I didn't take a pic.
Anyway I am out the door.
I might call tech support tonight.
Thanks for all your help,UniR

As a system Engineer for over 20K PC's I seen that problem very often. The problem is a virus. Sasser Virus.
How to solve the problem. Use a second computer and Download Sasser removal tool from symantec. Run tool on safe mode.
To stop the pc from rebooting. Perform: Start, run, CMD. on the cmd box type SHUTDOWN -A. The system might be unstable, but will give you enough time to remove the virus.
