I am from the East Bay Area. While in SF, go see the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, and if open, Fort Point under the GG bridge. Go across the bridge, and take the first exit, and go to the top of the hill to get bridge shots with the city in the background....great place!!!

    Look out, Alan Forbes

    But don't worry.

The family and I are leaving Friday for a few days off in San Francisco followed by a leisurely 10 hour drive on Thanksgiving Day to visit my 90 year old Aunt in Portland with my Dad, sister, and the rest of the family.

Last lear's trip...Do yourself a giant favor and see the Sutro Bath park. Fantastic. Even a shipwreck to see depending on tide. Lots of info from the parking lot. Also the windmill district is close to Sutro..I could go on and on...Love that place!

    Mt Diablo

Drive or bicycle up Mt Diablo as well... Most visible land from anywhere on earth except Kilimanjaro (I've been told).

I was cycling up there one time and saw a (non-Slantfin) bobcat that I first mistook for a reddish-colored golden retriever. I never believed that bobcats could get that size.

    Lori's Diner

I would make a point of stopping at any of the Lori's Diners, the main ones being near Union Square. My late sister Lisa worked there and they treated her like gold. Great folks, good food.

And I love the cable cars...

I have been up & down Mt. Diablo a hundred times!!! Worked in Walnut Creek & Concord for years. Am from Antioch! Beautiful mountain! If in Oakland, go see the USS Hornet! Awsome aircraft carrier that is now a museum!

    My son on the Hornet

But it was all about that F-14 Tomcat!

He's bound and determined to be a jet fighter pilot. I would be shocked if they weren't all drones by the time he's 20. By then flying a military aircraft may be suicidal if the sky is full of predator type aircraft in conflict zones when both parties have big backing. What will China be doing on the sidelines? Whoops... too serious! L

He's just coming to terms that they've actually decommissioned the F14 Tomcat and that he is not going to get to fly one. That's a pretty big word when you're 6 and you've seen Top Gun far too many times.

We've got good friends in the Delta off Bailey.
