Proper way to remove furnace \"asbestos?\" vibration sleeve

I am looking to replace a 30 y/o oil furnace. What is the best way to disconnect the furnace from the ducts. It looks like there is asbestos sleeves connecting the furnace to the duct systems. I can't test the sleeve by cuting a small piece off, as that would damage it. Is there another way to test if the sleeves contain asbestos. Any opinions based on the pic. Should the duct above the connectors be cut so that the sleeves are not disrupted?

Thanks -B

    Duct sleeve

My experience has been that these sleeves are canvas, not asbestos. And yes, you do want to remove it because they usually tear @ about 31 years, making a mess of your year old install. A good tin knocker will tie in solid. A good furnace won't need the isolation...

    I agree,...Fabric

Only way I know to test is have a lab do it with a sample. I had to do that in the past.
