zone valve problem??????

The circulators are "backwards"!

The system is probably air bound. You can bleed each zone and get most of the air out, but it will return over time (a year or two), killing any prospect of a permanent fix.

The circs. should be pumping away from the expansion tank, not sucking the water through the two zones as is evident from the photos.

If you're handy, I urge you to buy Holhan's seminal book titled "Pumping Away." If your not that handy, do a search for a contractor in the area my using the "find a Professional" at te top left of this website.

Let us know how you make out, please.

For the last few weeks since we had heat on the boiler runs alot. Boiler is a Weil Mccain about 5 years old. Both thermostats set at 62 and upstairs it's 73. Downstairs it's 65. Replaced thermostats and the same thing happens. Limited is set at 160-180 for hot water. The boiler comes on for hot water and it's running into the 2nd floor piping for the hot water baseboard thus heating upstairs. Neighbor said it might be the flow valve that is stuck. The flow valve is a Watts 2850. Anyone know how to unstick these? Does it sound like the problemis the zone valve?
