going to go right now.

But my question to you is, How do you REALLY know you're vote is being
tallied the way you voted?? This is not a political statement its a problem for every American,( republican or democrat), citizen, and county official.

I watched a documentary called Hacking Democracy, scary .
edit: Hacking Democracy is on tonight (11/7) at 6:30 on HBO

    The best choice...

I thought I might vote for my favorite candidates tomorrow but after watching all of the bashing I think I'll go in and write down my name for every office. That way I know I am voting for someone I trust. Better yet, I may write in my wife's name. I trust her even more.

Having moved from NJ to VT...

I am scared to death how they do things up here!

Never got a "sample ballot." They don't believe in such things here. Never got a voter registration card. They don't believe in such things here. We have no idea where to go to cast our vote. Asked half a dozen locals; they had three locations in mind as "probably there." The two "independent" parties have as much pull and air-time as the Republicans and Democrats. None of the four active parties ads state which party they represent openly; you have to listen to the fast talking muffled overdub trailer to tell, if even then (or read print finer than a magnifying glass would reveal.) That's okay, we prefer to vote for the man/woman - not a party.

The complete lack of how and where to vote is disconcerting at best, and damn near criminally evasive at worst.

Afetr a half hour web search, we found one website suggests our polling place is, "The Opera House." Where ever that may be. Wife Jaye suggests that place burned down last year, if in fact it even was The Opera House.

Hope springs eternal. I will fill up the tank, cruise into "downtown." Look for the stars and stripes and people mulling about and probably wind up milking a few cows before finding the correct location.

Such is life in extremely rural northern Vermont. Once we vote however, we'll have the building etched in our minds forever.

    Unless it burns down again...

    Voting

I don't mean to sound superior- but if pushing a punch card next to their choice is too difficult for someone to understand then I'm ok with weeding them out off the election process. It seems like a very basic task. Like if you can't spell your own name-you don't get to vote. Sorry! No I'm not a democrat, I just play one on the Wall.

    True Story

Going back about 8-10 years I was the elected head of the GOP in Boston. As part of that I was automatically an ex-officio Deputy Registrar of Voters in the City of Boston.

Part of my training was ballot security. The election commissioners (two from each major party -yeah, right- and two unenrolled in theory) explained the dynamics of how to steal an election. They never asked my party affiliation at the time. I asked how ballot tampering was to be prevented. They told me that was not the point.... until I told them who I was. Then it was all smiles and oh-just-kiddings....

Another Boston Factoid: We used to use two kinds of voting machines, Shupe and AVM's, both the kind with levers and curtains. The Shupes were in a vertical arrangment, the AVM's had all names listed horizontally across. If the powers that be did not like you, your name got put on the top of the ballot on the vertical Shupe machines. You see, the Shupe machines were used principally in Boston's Ward 3 which includes Chinatown. Some folks there have a stature that makes it hard to reach that high... cynical but true...

Bottom line, regardless- VOTE. People have died to give you the privlege.

    Sounds like

the "complicated" has trouble adjusting to the "simplicity". I voted using paper ballots, and marking my "X". All this "bashing" of Vermont juxtaposed to New Jersey makes me wonder if you'll ever get it.

    Jed,

I will never get it in any state. Vermont is so complex, I am overwhelmed by the outcome. A republican govenor gets re-elected by a large margin; a socialist gets elected to the U.S.Senate, and Martha Rainville loses to a democrat.

    You understand this logic Jed?

    'Splane it to me (;-o)

Here is to a speedy "recovery" comrade Ken.
