Hybrid is really a buzz word right now. It is a marketing ploy to attract customers. It really means a heat pump with fossil fuel kit. i.e. furnace with a heat pump.

We use the word Hybrid with our reverse chiller systems, which we use for RFH.

I wasnt aware that 410 would give a higher temperature. I'm using an R22 heat pump in my house with boiler hot water back up. Works great. Is the Carrier "Hybrid" the same as the "dual fuel" of yesteryear. If so, I recommend the use of the Honeywell 8000 series of menu driven thermostat. It uses an outdoor sensor to make the switch from HP to back up from the thermostat. A much simpler system having the thermostat make the decision. WW

    I don't buy...

that R410a will give you warmer temps. We tend to find that with any high end heat pump with a scroll compressor and huge outdoor coil. But never seen proof nor experienced that R410a itself will do any better than R22.

    yes it is true

very true the new 410a will give you a much better delta tee in the heat mode than r-22. Strange what people call the so called new hi tech units. I have been putting fossil fuel with heatpumps for 30 years. Yes Carrier has a hybrid heatpump with a hot water coil so does about every one else. Carrier and others have had these out for about 25 years now lmao. So ask me something if in doubt about heatpumps.

sales hype...this is a dual fuel setup heatpump with fossil backup. can be done with LP, natural, oil. these have been around for a long time. with the 410 the balance point is a bit lower. The new outdoor units have many features previously unavailable which take away some of the wiring issues and make for a cleaner job. switching can be done automatically in the micro now instead of the cumbersome old changeover panels.

    I've been using

the Hybrid word when pitching my dual fuel installs. Uninformed customers' eyes glaze over at the sound of the word heat pump, and they don't know who to trust. (allz I know is heat pumps blow cold air, you must be "The Devil" for suggesting it) When you say the word hybrid, it gives them something recognizable to begin with, and then gives them something that they can compare it to. Hybrid cars, which are gaining in the public vision all the time. The very fact that some manufacturers are now providing hybrid package units says volumes. WW
