Are theses thermic bypass valves always included in boilers systems manifolds or just when using condensing cast iron boilers?
Hi, I am designing a 5 zone system w/3zone infloor, fan watercoil, indirect DHW, on a new buderus 125kbtu boiler
Am gettin conflicting advice on whether to use mixing valves to each infloor zone, whether to use individual circs or 1 circ and zone valves and just how to prioritize the DHW. Any input to shed more lite on the subject? Plus it all needs to come together on the wall like a work of art(demanding client even painted the wall for mounting all the manifold systems)
BTW, I used Onyx tubing & it's so easy to work w/ when laying down radiant floor tubes. I see most everyone using pex which seems abit stiff. Just My 2 cents worth.

I would install a low water cut off on the supply riser before the union.

Looks real nice. Besides the LWCO (I believe it was mandatory per code 2003), why all the foil tape on the single wall vent connector? Are you sure single wall connectors are allowed by the Vent Tables ? How about the appliance with the lowest input being first into a common manifold ? Other than some vent questions, looks nice.
I like that Xtank mounting.

Just noticed the tee on the water heater what else is on that manifold. I think we need to recheck the Vent Tables.
What do you think?

What's with the silver tap? Is it rated for high temp?

And what is the item on the bottom of the primary loop which ties in to the bottom tee? I'm interested.

That is a Danfoss ESBE Thermic bypass valve. As installed it will bypass the system, and return all water back to the boiler until the return temp hits 140. It will respond to cold water return temps from the system by adding hot water from the supply header. I really like them, they are simple and only ever had one callback one one. It uses what looks like a standard automotive coolant thermostat, (well I'm talking Ford/Chevy/Dodge anyway)

I have the same questions as above on the LWC, the tape, and the Exhaust manifold. I also think the taco circ on the primary needs to be rotated so the wiring box is on the side instead of the bottom where it may be damaged by water leaks per manufacturer.

Looks like you spent a lot of time on it, looks very neat and proffesional. I like the expansion tank mount, that is not going anywhere soon, and easily accesible for service. I also like the drain port under the air eliminator.

We all look at our installs after we are done and see where we can make improvements.....

That is a TV valve. See the post 'ever use a TV?' My helper ran out of screws...and taped it. Needed to get them hot water. I am hoping the tape will come off after it gets hot. Could you point me to the code that concerns the smallest appliance being first? If it needs to be changed, I will. I have had many inspections now and never been asked about a LWCO. Just 30# relief & backflow & vent size. The rest is totally greek to our inspectors here.

I posted a second ago...Which code deals wit the order of introduction into the manifold? I will bring in my IFGC book. Only two WH's and the boiler. Foil tape comes off. It was temp because helper ran out of screws. It got the cust hot water....

You have no reason to feel bad, your work is top shelf. You asked for suggestions and we gave them. I could show you some of my jobs that were done ASAP, and when time permitted went back and corrected.

The tape is a good idea in lieu of screws, I would have done the same thing.

is that Glavanized steel pipe on the near boiler piping?

After seeing what happens in open potable DHW systems with galvy pipe, I never considered it much good for anything but fence posts :-)

I am good on combustion air & and makeup air, but cannot find the code section you refrenced.Ihave Chimneys & vents as section 501, chapter 5. tables are 504. Any ideas why the two IFGC would be so different? I would like to read this & learn!

While you are finishing the fuel line for the boiler maybe you could repair the fuel line on the water heater. Customer would probably like to get rid of that flex connector.

And a nice example too. The thermic bypass is to allow the boiler to warm up, much the same way your car does. It recirculates the water inside the boiler until it is warm enough and then lets it through for the heating circuit. The boiler runs better and cleaner this way.
