steam boiler failure

Options
is in copper, I doubt it is piped right. Where is it leaking and how large a boiler is it?

    steam boiler failure

Steam boiler is 5 years old and has developed leak. Should the water be treated periodically? Piping seems correct although it is copper feed and return.

Most of these failures are caused by excessive water, not untreated water. Are your returns buried somewhere that you can not see them? You should have them checked before replacing the boiler. When you do change the boiler put a Hydrolevel VXT feeder on it so you can see how much water is going into the boiler.

    I agree

A 5 year old boiler should not leak! Where is it leaking?Between sections or is the casting leaking? If it's between sections should be a warranty job, if it's a casting leak most likely a fresh water problem ie; taking on fresh water . Yes there are chemicals that can be added but all I use are pur-pro steam and
boiler cleaner in my steam systems.Keeps it clean reduces blowdown frequencies,it's color coded and you can leave it in there.I'm not a fan of using chemicals to cover up symptoms or a problem, call somebody who knows about steam that can find and correct the root of the problem.

Boiler is a natural gas fired Burnham 206 package boiler. It is leaking in the rear, looking in the front at gas valve, and near the return inlet tapping. It will be a warranty replacement but all they will send is a block or credit the cost of a block towards a new package boiler. All return piping is above floor. Thanks for the replies.
