1/8 inch connections vs 1/4 inch connections

Whats the difference between 1/4 inch connections and 1/8 inch connections for vents? I measured a supposidly 1/8 inch connection and its 5/16 inch not a 1/4. and the 1/8 inch connection is 1/4 inch. These are inside diameters that I am measuring. Am I missing something?

    Those are all nominal

    sizes, Seth. 1/8" pipe is 0.405" OD and 1/4" pipe is 0.54" OD. The various wall thicknesses for pressure class do vary the ID.
