Without seeing the specific install instructions I'll just give an informed opinion. On all the steam boiler install instructions I have seen the tap for the probe type is above the float type water shut off line. This is done to give a little more time for condensate to come back. So, if the first one is higher in the water level I guess it would be first to shut off. Also, in some states the lwco must break the 120 volt feed to the boiler. A float type meets the code and then the probe type could be 24V. Main thing is safety and a redundant lwco is a good idea. No control is maintenance free so follow the cleaning interval for the probe type and flushing of the float type.

    Low Water Cutoff - Probe Primary - Float Secondary for Steam

    We want to install a primary and secondary Low water cutoff for a Peerless 4 section steam boiler. Peerless recommends the Hydolevel CG450 Probe for a primary.
    Which would be safer .... to install another CG450 probe in the secondary position or a Float type LWC?
    Any opinions?
