What is it???

It is a front sight for a bow and arrow.

House built in 1986, HO said this has always been on the 90% furnace I serviced today, and said I could have it. If you tighten the rear thumbscrew, the light comes on. Seems to have a set on the post where a wire can be attached.

I've seen many sights, but how would the light help? not a laser, just a light. I do not use a sight personally.

Illuminates the fiberoptics. Makes the pins glow so you can see them in low light.

Unless you're playing some sort of game that's surely a pressure-actuated device intended for use during setup/adjustment/inspection. Likely VERY important and should never have been removed.

No game, was just sitting there on top of a 90% unit. Just how would this work and where would it go? Is it left installed? The thumbscrew lights the light, but otherwise it is just a threaded post with a thumbscrew on the post where a wire can be attached. Ideas?

From appearance almost certainly has to do with pressure.

    Is the "post" not hollow?

If so than suck or blow on it while playing with the thumbscrew and the operation of the light will surely change.

If not hollow, my only other guess is that it's related to temperature. Use a match or a lighter on the post while paying with the thumbscrew to affect the light.

If you're wondering about the power source, my guess is that you unscrew just below the lens to reveal the battery.

Batteries are behind the light. Post is solid. Heat does not light the light, or turn it off. Thumb screw behind light turns it on, and the flat washers after the lock washer and on top of the thumbscrew on the post would indicate a wire could be wrapped around the post, but why? Why such a long post? WHAT IS IT??? I will not sleep until I know!!!
