Do not call registry

which is becoming as much of a nuisance as the purely business calls that used to come in. The worst thing is that moment of silence while the computer is figuring out if you are really there. I find that trying to sell THEM a life insurance policy shortens the conversation considerably. Maybe for PR sake we should just say 'heatinghelp.com' and hang up.

    Any NYker's

I got a strange call on my cell yesterday. Woman asking if she called my cell phone.

I got this e-mail from a friend and registered my cell and office phone.

CELL NUMBERS GO PUBLIC NOVEMBER 2ND; JUST A REMINDER, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start; receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up; costing you money in the long run. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222; It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years web site;http://www.donotcall.gov PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

I called and it is legit.

    Thanks Mark.

I'm sure everyone agrees that the telemarketers are a real pain in the A**. They usually call at dinner time disrupting the family life. The Death Penalty would not be out or order for these non skilled idiots....:-)

    Hey Mike...

Mike, I used to have the same opinion of telemarketers and all it did was make me angry. Then one day I decided to find out just how long I could keep one on the phone by acting na

I am with you too, Uni...

When they would call, I would say, "hold on, let me get a pencil".

I would leave the phone off the hook and go about my business.... as long as I wanted...

OR, I would ask them: "Do you lie to your friends and parents about what you do for work?" That usually gets them off the line pretty quickly and maybe into a better line of work.

I pity any telemarketer that gets my wife on the phone. She hates the calls, so she gives them grief. When someone calls trying to sell alarm systems, she tells them to call back when the homeowner is home, "because no one is here and I'm robbing the house".

My favorite is when a woman calls and asks for me. She asks them who is calling and they say it's personal. She then gets loud and says "Are you the one he's been having an affair with?" Boy do they get nervous. They can't figure out how to hang up fast enough.

    I don't

understand why the majority of people who do NOT want to recieve calls need to register. Wouldn't it be much simpler for the people who DO want to get them to register.

I can't help thinking it's just some ploy to gather info

Similarly, who is making all this stuff that is always getting forwarded in e mails, and for what reason?
by the time this stuff gets circulated, seems they contain a nice long list of active email addresses.

I don't suppose the president's interpretation of our privacy rights in his one man war on terrorism is the reason I started getting E-mails from the republican national commitee. Strange, I don't get any from the democrats.... hmmm.

    Great solution

we found a great solution to telemarketers. When my daughter was about 5 years old, we put her on the phone with the young man who called! She kept asking him if he had a girlfriend, what he was doing, etc... he held on for around 20 minutes before he couldn't take anymore! Kept my daughter (and my wife and I) amused the whole time!
