As an oil burner tech I would love to see more dual dampers in use....excess draft lowers efficicency(more heat up the chimney) and effects flame quality, sometimes to the point of causing burner shutdown. Something to remember if you have a tall chimney and/or live on a hill or in an area with high winds, just because you have the proper amount of draft while having the annual service in dead air in August certainly doesn't mean it will be O.K. during the winter months....

Two Barametric Drafts

I notice that some boilers have two barametric drafts. Is there a reason or installation why this is nessacary? Or does this improve boiler efficenies? Looking for info?

If the chimney has way too much draft then 2 barometrics may be needed, but I've never seen it. The whole reason for having a barometric damper is to admit basement air into the flue to slow the draft down to acceptable levels.

The down side of two draft regulators is if you have excessive draft in the chimney and install the second draft regulator you are still pulling too much air from the structure. As we see draft in excess of -.04 the flame will leave the head or bounce on & off the head creating a noisy fire and/or soot. Adding the second draft regulator will get the overfire draft to the proper reading, it still pulls too much air out of the house thus being replaced by cold air. Best fix is to re-line the chimney. Too bad homeowners will normally not want this done. Pay me now or pay the fuel supplier every month - their choice!
