Right on! Go to a real paint store - Moore or another & ask for low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint for metal. Tell them what you are doing & ask for (or get via the web) the data sheets for the paint. Do some comparative research. Be patient. Some people in the paint stores are paint sellers, others know the technical stuff. And, of course, read the posts here on the Wall and the article in the Library.
[An edit] I imagine the best finish won't be low VOC paint - that's why I suggest talking to knowledgeable paint people.
Peace & good luck.

spray painting radiators
We have gorgeous American Standard radiators from about 1901 on our one pipe steam system. Most of them are peeling lead paint at this point (we just moved in in June). Our toddler's radiator was sandblasted today, and we will do one every month or so until all 12 are done.
Based on the home improvement blogs I've read, it seems that most people spray Rustoleum onto their radiators. Do we need to use the high temp kind, or can we use any of them? The regular ones state up to 200 degrees. In the homeowners book Dan seems to imply that any paint will do, but I want to double check so as not to have more problems. I have enough roof/insulation/leaking radiator valves/lack of main vent... problems as it is

paint.
My only concern about the rustoleum spray paint is that emits an odor for a very, very long time every time it gets hot. The finish is now hard as a rock but I swear it took months for the odor do diminish!
I've used a newer latex semigloss of some kind and had good results, and I've wondered how some of the new acrylic paints for metal have worked out in this application.

Try a Benjamen Moore dealer. Go to a good paint dealer, not a Box store, and tell them what you are doing. If you follow their advice and the paint fails in a reasonable amount of time or under the warranty period they should honor it.

Look in the tech topics...there is an article on this very thing...color matters!
