PRV or Expansion Tank?

If 60 lbs is average do they have to be rated far higher than that to deal with temp increases? Water co. swears they keep pressure at 55-60 lbs but in last three weeks we've had three relief valve releases. (I wasn't there but I'm assuming it's the indirect RV) Our oil co says this time of the year--when all the lawn sprinklers are switched off, usage declines and pressure increases, they get alot of complaints. Pressure regulation in the area is centralized only. I'd assume local pressure fluctuations are possible.

Perhaps a PRV AND expansion tank?

Thanks,

David

    Dripping HW Heater

My HW heater is dripping from the T&P valve. I have a 1 inch supply from the meter which has a backflow preventer. Should I install an expansion tank or a regulator? I have surveyed the neighborhood (Washington DC) and at least 7 folks are experiencing the same problem. One of them has a gage installed at the main and it reads 70 psi.

with a backflow preventer on the main you need an expansion
tank. When the water heater heats up there is no place for the expansion to go.

    Expansion Tank did the trick

Thanks everyone. I installed a ProFlo PFT 12, set the charge to 70psi and the problem is solved.
