Converting to hot water.

I have a customer with two third floor steam radiators that bang like crazy. They are fed with a 3/4 " copper line and have an 1-1/2" copper return. I have shut them off at the radiator valves and the banging has stopped. So in order to avoid tearing a very nice stairwell all to pieces and repiping the thing in iron. I thought about converting it to hot water, and adding a wireless thermostat for those two radiators only. Do you think this is a good idea? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Are these 2-pipe radiators?

If so, do they have traps on the return connections?

Yes they are two pipe and they have traps

You probably either

have bad trap elements or inadequate air venting on the dry return. If these are OK, try replacing the traps with ones that have larger throughputs like the Barnes & Jones #122.

This should be easily fixable without doing such a risky conversion.
