RE: how long you will be in the house and whether to install a high efficiency appliance.........There will come a time, probably in the not too distant future, when having a high efficiency boiler or furnace, will be a MAJOR selling point for any piece of property.

buderas vs high enery efficiency
am considering replacing our burnham boiler (that has some issues) with buderas boiler? I know it isnt as efficient has the really high energy efficient like munchkin or other brands? but how do you think it compares with burnham etc?
thanks rm0 -
Munchkin?
Can we assume by reference this will be a NG-fired boiler?
I'd check out W/M, Munchkin, Buderus, AND Burnham. Also Viessmann, Peerless and anyone else out there with a decent reputation.
I would share your brand preferences with the all-important contractor before making a final decision. With fuel costs becoming more and more significant of late, despite NG's sudden plummet, I'd think about how long you will be living in this home as a major factor in selecting what form (condensing, 94%AFUE vs, non-condensing, 85%AFUE) long and hard.
If you plan on staying in this home for the foreseeable future, go with the 94+ boiler. The economics of such units is undebateable.0 -
Suggest
I would suggest contacting a few good quality contractors and have them evaluate your system, do a heat load calculation to the home, then offer which boiler would best suit your application. A condensing boiler in a standard high temperature application usually will not provide high 90's efficiency's. We have seen efficiencies of 88% to 89% when operating at 180 degree supply/160 return water temperatures. During the milder outdoor temperatures where higher water temperatures are not needed the efficiency may increase depending on the system. The additional cost of a condensing boiler verses a cast iron boiler may result in a longer "payback" period than expected. The type of heating system and designed operating temperature should be considered before choosing which type of boiler to have installed.0 -

What type of heat emitters do you have?
Sorry, Joe beat me to it.0 -
To Bad
It really is to bad that people, mostly Realtors and Appraisers do not consider this in the property value.
