So would I be better off looking at Tekmar? Would Outdoor Reser be of any value in a system like mine?

    Beckett Heat Manager - worthwhile?

I have a basic Weil McClain CG series boiler (standing pilot, atmospheric draft) running 2 zones of hydro-air. Wondering if I can improve the efficiency.

I was reading about the Beckett Heat Manager on their web site - seems cool. Does it actually work? Is it worth the money?

Also, any way to convert the standing pilot to electronic ignition? Does that make sense?

    Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I have a similiar boiler setup. Would a Tekmar control be a better option?

    They work

basically it expands the differential. It's really not fair to compare to Tekmar, they are not in the same league price-wise and functionality -wise. But you can't argue with Beckett's 10% savings guarantee and customer support

    Converting

Going from standing pilot to electronic ign. is easy if you have the money. We did this allot in the 70's, all the control mfg. had kits. Control, gas valve, pilot assembly and wiring. Unless you can get the parts free I would not do it. You could put on a vent damper like the new 78% boilers have, one with a little hole if you keep the standing pilot and you will have a less drafty basement and save some standby fuel. Probably have a pretty long payback after parts and labor, might be a good idea if you use enough fuel. Maybe save you 3 to 5 percent in fuel. Cleaning the boiler passages on the flue side is what I would do first, really important with oil, less so with nat gas. check the flue temp before and after cleaning, if it drops you have gained effeciency.
