Ridgid press tool problem

Our Ridgid compact cordless press tool went from working normally to completely stone dead in 2 seconds today. I had just pressed a fitting and moved to another when it just quit. No blinking lights, no nothing, will not turn back on with either battery, both of which are fully charged. Ambient temp where we were working was in the 30's but we've never had cold weather problems before.

Anyone have a quick solution. We're about 1/4 of the way through this job and have much to do yet before fire up on Friday. Hand crimper is out of the question as we are doing a fair amount of 1 1/4" pex for this system.

    sorry

I really have no idea what you could do. Is there any way you get sacrifice the fitting and try to pry the jaws open? Or maybe take apart the handle and look at the wiring from the battery terminals to the switch, maybe you have a bad connection.

This is one of the reasons why I was leery of buying a battery press tool. Not that the same thing couldn't happen to an electric one, but I hate having to worry about a battery when I have 30 more fittings to go.

Where are you located? I could lend you my Rems tool if we are close enough.

    1 1/4\" Pex?

Are you talking about the Ridgid copper fitting press tool, or the Uponor (Wirsbo) battery pex expander?

    e-mail this guy...

He's my ridgid rep. and has been more than helpfull with any questions I have. He does NY, Pa. and I'm not sure what other areas, but he could probably tell you who's in your area.

Some supply houses rent them. Ask around. Could get you through till you get yours fixed.

Our b-100 3 mo's old failed. The supply house had a new one the next day to use for the week.

    Best of luck,

We have the 320E, last year in the middle of large job it quit on us. no warning. Local rep was out of town. (he had a demo) so we rented from a supply house about 1-1/2 hrs away. I ended up buy another 320E. and on large jobs make sure we have both there.

    Progress??

I called Viega first today since the compact press tool came through their distribution chain, they gave me an 877 number for tech support at Ridge. Lot's of good that did!!
I sat on hold for 40 minutes and never did get through to anyone in the department. I have to say that their level of service has gone waaaaayyy downhill in the past 3-4 years.
