Drilling into old cast iron rad

Sharp and cool. Go in straight using a guide if you can. Carbide bits or high speed steel; depending on graphite content, you may get only one or two uses out of HSS (and no one really re-sharpens drill bits these days, do they? )
:)
Also when tapping, go in one direction only. Do not back-out to clear chips until you are done. If you do back out mid-tap, you run the risk of chipping the just-cut lead threads. Use plenty of oil here too.

drilling into an old cast iron rad
I would like to add a second vent to a couple of my old cast iron rads but I am a little worried about drilling and threading them.
Whats the chances of them cracking? Should I attempt it?
