Copper return OK?

I need to replace my 50+ yr old residential steam boiler. One quote I got specifies black steel supply piping and copper return pipng. Is it OK to use copper for the returns or is it an unacceptable short cut?
The other quotes I have don't specify anything. I guess I need to ask each contractor what he plans to do.
Thanks for your help.

Copper can be used anywhere you don't have steam. In other words, below the water line. Wet returns can be copper, dry returns can't.0
