old delco boiler
Probably 80 years old. No Hartford loop. LWCO not working. Big internal coil but family was complaining about not enough hot water.0 -
new V84
Can this one live up to the one it replaced? I hope so. Drop header and valves as recommended by this list. Two 2" risers drop into a 3" header.0 -
Hartford Loop
And now I finally have a Hartford loop.0 -
Burnham Alliance 53 gallon indirect
Plenty of hot water for everyone now.0 -
Ernie's right
The loop of the pigtail should point forward or backward instead of sideways. As it is now, it can tilt the Vaporstat from side to side as it expands and contracts. This will affect the Vaporstat's set point. I've attached a shot of one of our jobs that has a Vaporstat as well as a pressuretrol, look at how the pigtails are installed.
While you're at it, change the iron pigtail to a brass one that won't rust up inside and clog.
Otherwise it looks great! How did you vent your steam mains?

I will, thanks.0 -
I'll replace the pigtail. Thanks for the photo.
I replaced the main vents with Gorton #2's, but I left them on the return tees where the dead men put the original vents.0 -

nice neat piping...
Tim. Two things...do you have a reverse acting aquastat so the boiler does not steam when making hot water...and you might find that the 007B won't last long(less than 1 yr.) it can't handle the heat of the condensate..a 110 bronze will do better...although it is a lot more $$$...kpc

Kevin,
Thanks for responding. I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a 110 bronze. Thanks for the heads up.
I had the boiler aquastat wired to turn off the boiler before it steamed, but the oil company rewired it to be independent of the indirect. Now it just keeps the boiler at temperature. But I'm thinking of replacing it with a different controller so I can both keep the boiler running and make hot water using hotter condensate than the summer boiler temp without making steam.
I've asked about this issue in another thread:

As long
as the water doesn't back up to those tees, you should be OK.
